Training Course on 'Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries Statistics' in Uganda

In accordance with its 2014 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the Training Course on 'Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries Statistics' at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in Kampala, Republic of Uganda on 17-18 June 2014 within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The Course was provided by Ms. Tugba Gocmen, Statistics Expert at Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) with participation of relevant officials of UBOS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009), agriculture, forestry, fishery statistics includes all agriculture, forestry and fishery related statistics, e.g.  agricultural monetary statistics (agricultural economic accounts), agricultural structures (farm structure), trade in agricultural products, agricultural labour input, crop and animal production, agricultural commodities, agro-industry statistics (including food production and safety), organic farming and organic food, government expenditure for agriculture, fishing and forestry, products source and use tables, forest and forest product statistics, forest resource assessment and forest fire, trade in forest products, fisheries. The subject area “Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries” is currently classified under the “Sectoral statistics”, an activities category under the “Economic statistics” domain.

The training course focused on Animal Production Statistics including group work and discussion activities, and covered the following topics:

  • System of Turkish Animal and Meat Production Statistics
  • System of Uganda Animal and Meat Production Statistics
  • Methodological Approaches for Estimation of Animal Population and Meat Production in EU

               - Demographical Methods

               - Estimation Methods

  • Methodological Approaches for Estimation of Animal Population and Meat Production in Turkey
  • Analysis of Time Series of Uganda Animal Population
  • Discussion of possible methodologies for Uganda Animal Population and Meat Production
