The 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS)

Date : 10-19 October 2018 Venue : Geneva-Switzerland

The International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, organized the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) on 10 - 19 October 2018 at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Participants include experts from governments, mostly representing labour ministries and national statistical offices, as well as from employers and workers’ organizations. Observers come from international and regional organizations and other interest groups.

The Conference included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Revision of the International Classification of Status in Employment (ICSE-93)
  • Update on the implementation of the 19th ICLS Resolution concerning statistics of work, employment and labour underutilization
  • Statistical standards to measure labour migration and forced labour
  • Indicators relevant for the world of work within the Global Indicator Framework to monitor the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030

ICLS is convened every five years by the International Labour Organization and is the world’s recognized standard-setting body in the area of labour statistics. The ICLS makes recommendations on selected topics of labour statistics in the form of resolutions and guidelines, which are then approved by the Governing Body of the ILO before becoming part of the set of international standards on labour statistics.

SESRIC sponsored the participation of some statisticians from NSOs of OIC member countries in the 20th ICLS.
