SESRIC Participated in the 3rd Meeting of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training

SESRIC participated in the 3rd Meeting of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training (SGGST) organised by the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific on 4-6 December 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.

The 1st Meeting of the SGGST took place on 16-18 January 2019, where the members discussed the training needs across Asia-Pacific region, existing resources and expertise on gender statistics training across the region, modalities, timelines and next steps for the work of the Subgroup.

The 2nd Meeting of the SGGST was held on 15-17 July 2019, in which the achievements of the SGGST; further development of the training curriculum; and the establishment of mechanisms to seek commitment to training delivery and implementation plans were discussed during the Meeting.

In the 3rd Meeting, the members of the SGGST:

  • reviewed available and newly developed training materials for the Training Curriculum on Gender Statistics;
  • identified a way forward to fill remaining training material gaps;
  • finalised the repository of experts;
  • developed implementation plans with training and academic institutions;
  • reviewed outreach/advocacy strategy; and
  • designed the next steps for the Subgroup and its members, including implementation of training in countries.

SESRIC has become a formal member of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training of the Network for the Coordination of Statistical Training in Asia and the Pacific coordinated by the UN Women (the secretariat of the Subgroup) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) (the secretariat of the Network) on 15 November 2018. The main objective of the Subgroup is to ensure data users and producers in Asia and the Pacific have the necessary skills to produce, disseminate and use gender statistics widely, including for SDG monitoring.
