Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an online training course on ‘Banking, Insurance and Financial Statistics’ for the benefit of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Brunei on 17-19 November 2020.

Mr. Mohd Yazid KASIM, Senior Deputy Director of National Accounts Statistics Division at the Department of Statistics of Malaysia (DOSM), conducted the course with the participation of 15 officials from the JPES as well from Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) and Employee Trust Fund (TAP) of Brunei.

The Online Training Course covered the following topics:

• Basic concept of SNA related to financial sector
• Introduction to financial corporations and subsectors
• Financial production
• Measurement of FISIM
• Production and income distribution for different branches of the financial sector
• Life and non-life insurance and re-insurance
• Social security, pension and non-pension schemes
• Estimation and valuation of output

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during these difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
