Webinar on ‘Tourism Statistics’

Within its recently initiated Webinar Series on Statistical Experience Sharing, SESRIC organised a webinar on “Tourism Statistics” on 24 February 2021 with the participation of 70 attendees from 17 OIC member countries, namely Albania, Algeria, Bangladesh, Benin, Brunei, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mozambique, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Suriname, Togo, and Uzbekistan.

After the welcoming remarks of Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Director of Statistics and Information Department of SESRIC, the webinar started with the presentation of Dr. Cem TINTIN, Senior Researcher at Economic and Social Research Department of SESRIC, briefing the participants on the “State of Tourism in OIC Countries”.

Following the presentation of Dr. Cem TINTIN, Mr. Cem KOLAMAZ and Ms. Özge YAMANTAS Experts at the Tourism Statistics Group, presented the experience of TurkStat by covering the following topics related to tourism statistics:

  • Inbound Tourism Statistics
  • Outbound Tourism Statistics
  • Tourism Satellite Accounts
  • Household Domestic Tourism

Following the presentation of TurkStat, representatives of National Statistical Offices of Malaysia, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Suriname shared the experiences and practices of their institutions in tourism statistics with the participants.

The webinar was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
