The Fourth Meeting of the Delegates of the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of the OIC Member Countries was organised by SESRIC on 1 March 2012 in New York, United States of America as a side-event of the Forty-Third Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission. The delegates of the NSOs of the OIC Member Countries attended the meeting that aimed to get their comments and feedback on the tentative agenda of the Second Session of the OIC Statistical Commission. Moderated by Mr. Wynandin Imawan, Director of Social Security Statistics and Deputy Director General of Social Statistics at BPS-Statistics Indonesia; the meeting started with a presentation of Dr. Savas Alpay, Director General of SESRIC, on the official website of the OIC-StatCom. Dr. Alpay stated that the official website hosts all the relevant documents of the Commission’s works and the Secretariat would appreciate receiving feedback from the member NSOs to enrich the content of the website. Dr. Alpay went on to say that the relevant final draft documents of the OIC-StatCom Working Groups would be sent to the member NSOs soon. Dr. Alpay mentioned about the request of some member NSOs to hold the Second Session of the OIC-StatCom on 13-15 May 2012. Dr. Alpay also reminded the participants of submitting the previously sent StatCaB / SpIn-OIC surveys. Following Dr. Alpay, Dr. Abdullateef Bello, Director of Data Resources and Statistics Department of Islamic Development Bank, took the floor and proposed to have a keynote speaker after the welcome addresses in the opening session and at least one break-out session to enable the participants articulate their opinions on a selected subject. Dr. Bello also shared his idea of having theme based Commission sessions in the future. Afterwards, the delegates of the OIC Member Countries shared their feedback on the agenda items and confirmed to hold the Second Session of the OIC-StatCom on 13-15 May 2012. |
