 The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) featured the population characteristics of Türkiye on the occasion of World Population Day, observed annually on 11 July 2023.
According to the release, Türkiye’s population is 85 million 279 thousand 553 people, constituting 1.1% of the world total population, and ranking 18th among 194 countries in the world in 2022.
The release also featured proportion of children, youth, and elderly in the total population. The share of child population in Turkish total population was 26.5% in 2022, lower than that of the world child population average of 30%. Similarly, the proportion of youth population in total population was 15.2% in 2022, lower than that of the world youth population average of 15.5%. Finally, for the elderly population was 9.9% for Türkiye in 2022 which was slightly higher than world average of 9.8%.
