PCBS Highlights that Children and Women of Gaza Strip Face an Unprecedented Humanitarian Disaster

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) issued on 24 October 2023 a press release highlighting the state of children and women of Gaza Strip facing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.

According to the press release by PCBS, about 1.1 million women constituting 49.3% of the total population and around 1.05 million children under the age of 18 years were living in Gaza Strip prior to the aggression of the Israeli occupation on 7 October 2023.

Since the start of the current aggression, 597 massacres have already taken place, averaging 35 massacres every day. Meanwhile, more than 5,087 Palestinian have been martyred of which 1,119 were females and more than 2,055 were children. Women and children martyrs accounted 65% of the total martyrs.

There are around 546 thousand women of childbearing age (15-49 years) in Gaza Strip, of which 58% are married. The health reports in Gaza Strip indicate that there are about 50 thousand pregnant women of which 5,500 of them are to give birth to newborns in the next week. This implies that there is a high probability in births that will be delivered under unsafe health conditions and causing violation women’s rights. Furthermore, 10 hospitals have suspended their health services.
