21st Meeting of the Coordinating Council of COMSATS

The 21st Meeting of Coordinating Council of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) was held on 3-4 April 2018 and hosted by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a COMSATS’ Centre of Excellence in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Researcher, represented the SESRIC thereat.

The COMSATS Coordinating Council meets every year, inter alia, to: review the activities of COMSATS’ Network; follow up on the decisions and recommendations made in the previous meeting; and outline the future course of action. A total of 17 COMSATS Centres of Excellence confirmed their participation to the Meeting this year. During the Meeting, Dr. Karaman delivered a presentation summarising the activities of SESRIC on science, technology, and innovation conducted since the last Meeting convened in 2017.

COMSATS is an intergovernmental organisation with its permanent Secretariat based in Islamabad, Pakistan and strives to promote South-South cooperation in the fields of Science and Technology that are most relevant to socio-economic development. SESRIC and COMSTAT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2015 in order to conduct joint programs, projects and activities in the field of vocational training, scientific research and statistics for the benefit of the common member states.
