Webinar on ‘Energy Statistics for the SDG 7 Indicators’

Within the framework of its Webinar Series on Statistical Experience Sharing, SESRIC organised a Webinar on ‘Energy Statistics for the SDG 7 Indicators’ on 09 November 2021 in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA) with the participation of 43 attendees from the NSOs of 16 OIC countries as well as the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat).

The main objective of the Webinar was to raise awareness about the internationally accepted standards and guidelines regarding the collection and compilation of energy data for the relevant SDG indicators which a focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The Webinar included country experience presentations of Indonesia, Saudia Arabia, Turkey, and Uganda and covered the following topics:

  • Fundamentals of energy statistics;
  • Approaches to energy data collection;
  • Energy statistics and balances for the SDG indicators 7.2 and 7.3; and
  • Focus on renewable energy statistics for the SDG indicator 7.2.

The Webinar was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
