On the margins of the High-Level Regional Seminar on Promoting Cancer Awareness and Advocacy Programme in Abuja, H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK met with H.E. Prince Adeyemi ADENIRAN, the Statistician General of the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The meeting aimed to strengthen and expand the collaborative efforts between the NBS and SESRIC.
The discussions between the two sides revolved around increasing the scope of collaboration between SESRIC and NBS. NBS Nigeria has benefitted from 15 activities since the initiation of the SESRIC Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. 107 NBS experts benefitted from these StatCaB Programme activities.
During the meeting, H.E. SELÇUK underlined that SESRIC has organized a total of 506 statistical activities, benefitted by around 11,000 experts and statisticians from all OIC countries. H.E. SELÇUK also invited H.E. Prince ADENIRAN to the 13th Session of OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) to be held in October 2024 in Ankara.
On the other hand, H.E. Prince ADENIRAN thanked H.E. SELÇUK for the support extended by SESRIC to NBS, emphasizing that they have actively participated in SESRIC's statistical capacity-building activities. In this regard, he indicated his hope for increasing the cooperation between the two institutions.
The meeting concluded with both representatives indicating the importance of official statistics in supporting the decision-making processes, crucial for informed policy formulation and sustainable development.
