As part of its Statistical Experience Sharing Webinar Series, SESRIC, in collaboration with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), will organise a webinar on “Foreign Direct Investment and Competitiveness Statistics” on 17 June 2026 through an online video conferencing platform.
The webinar will bring together experts from the national statistical offices (NSOs), central banks, ministries, investment authorities, and other relevant institutions of OIC Member Countries, as well as representatives of regional and international organisations.
The webinar will be organized also within the framework of the implementation of the joint activities agreed during the 16th Session of the UN-OIC Meeting on Cooperation, held on 22–24 July 2024 in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, and in line with the Matrix of Activities within the Framework of UN-OIC Cooperation for 2024–2026.
The Webinar aims to:

review recent global and regional trends in FDI and selected competitiveness-related indicators, with a particular focus on OIC member countries;

discuss recent methodological developments and international standards in the compilation and interpretation of FDI statistics;
-
examine the statistical foundations of selected competitiveness-related indicators, including industrial performance, trade competitiveness, and productivity-related measures;
-
share country and institutional experiences in compiling, disseminating, and using FDI and competitiveness-related data for policy analysis;
-
identify data gaps, capacity building needs, and technical cooperation opportunities for strengthening national statistical systems in this domain.
The programme will feature technical presentations by UNCTAD, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and other relevant regional and international institutions. Country presentations will also highlight national experiences, good practices, and practical approaches in compiling and using FDI and competitiveness statistics for evidence-based policymaking.
