SESRIC, in collaboration with the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH) and the OIC General Secretariat, will organise a three-day online training on “Building a Resilient Water Future: Inclusive Governance, Data-Driven Decision Making, and Project Mobilisation for Water Security in OIC Member States” on 7 – 9 September 2026.
The overall objective of the training is to strengthen the capacities of water-sector professionals and policymakers in OIC countries to design, manage and mobilize sustainable water-security interventions through inclusive governance, data-driven decision-making, and effective project development.
The three-day training will address key dimensions of water security in member countries. The first day will focus on inclusive governance and policy frameworks, including climate-related water challenges, pollution, transboundary cooperation and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The second day will address data-driven decision-making, exploring water data ecosystems, indicators, data gaps, and quality standards, as well as the use of international databases and other statistical tools to inform policy and investment decisions. The final day will focus on project development, financing, and partnerships, including approaches to designing effective and impact-oriented water programmes, mobilising financial resources, and strengthening institutional and international partnerships for resilient and sustainable water futures.
Through its contribution to the training, SESRIC will particularly emphasise the role of reliable statistical data, indicators, and data systems in strengthening water governance and supporting evidence-based policy and investment decisions. The training will also provide a platform for experience-sharing and enhanced cooperation among relevant OIC institutions and specialised UN and international partners working towards strengthening water security.
