SESRIC participated in the Second Meeting of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training

SESRIC participated in the Second Meeting of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training (SGGST) organised by the UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia on 15-17 July 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The members of the Subgroup, including the National Statistical Offices of Albania, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Tajikistan; and training institutes from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, Korea and Kyrgyzstan attended the meeting.

The aims of the meeting were to discuss on the achievements of the SGGST, further development of the training curriculum (both thematic and crosscutting areas), and the establishment of mechanisms to seek commitment to training delivery and implementation plans.

In addition, the Second Meeting included discussions on how to adequately evaluate training effectiveness, implementation challenges and emerging issues, design of a feedback system whereby training institutes provide information on gender statistics related training facilitated and numbers of trainees, establishment of advocacy plans on gender statistics and gender mainstreaming, as well as a calendar of upcoming events where information about the work of the SGGST can be disseminated.

The First Meeting of the SGGST was held on 16-18 January 2019, where the members discussed the training needs across Asia-Pacific region, existing resources and expertise on gender statistics training across the region, modalities, timelines and next steps for the work of the Subgroup.

SESRIC has become a formal member of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training of the Network for the Coordination of Statistical Training in Asia and the Pacific coordinated by the UN Women (the secretariat of the Subgroup) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) (the secretariat of the Network) on 15 November 2018.

The main objective of the Subgroup is to ensure data users and producers in Asia and the Pacific have the necessary skills to produce, disseminate and use gender statistics widely, including for SDG monitoring.
