As part of its Statistical Experience Sharing Webinar Series, SESRIC organised a webinar titled “Measuring Progress on SDG 9: Strengthening Statistical Capacities for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization” on 9 December 2025. The webinar was attended by 40 official statisticians and experts from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and line ministries of 16 OIC countries as well 5 international and regional institutions.
The webinar was conducted in collaboration with the custodian agencies of the SDG 9 indicators, namely the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Energy Agency (IEA), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as well as the relevant OIC institutions and regional partners including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-STAT).
The Webinar facilitated the discussion by providing a platform for:
-
Reviewing recent global and regional progress on SDG 9 indicators;
-
Elaborating on methodological updates and challenges in measuring SDG 9 indicators, including disaggregation by sector, firm size and gender;
-
Highlighting good practices from OIC member countries in compiling and using SDG 9 data for industrial, innovation, and environmental policies;
-
Strengthening collaboration among custodian agencies, NSOs, and regional partners to harmonize reporting frameworks and improve data quality;
-
Exploring capacity-building and technical cooperation opportunities to enhance industrial statistics and accelerate progress toward SDG 9.
The webinar was organized within the framework of the OIC-StatCom Strategic Vision 2030 and will serve as a supporting statistical activity for the forthcoming OIC-StatCom Programme of Action 2026–2030, particularly under the strategic objective aimed at strengthening statistical capacity for SDG monitoring.
