SESRIC Participated in the Online Consultation Meeting on the ‘International Classification of Dying Places (ICP)’

Date : 11 December 2025 Venue : Virtual-Portugal

SESRIC participated in the Online Consultation Meeting on the “International Classification of Dying Places (ICP)”, organized by the EOLinPLACE in collaboration with IAPO and Eurocarers on 11 December 2025.

The consultation aimed to collect feedback on the draft ICP, focusing on the clarity and appropriateness of definitions and concepts, inputs from different linguistic and cultural contexts, and the overall relevance of the ICP as a potential international statistical standard.

The event brought together representatives of National Statistical Offices, international organisations and classification focal points. SESRIC’s participation reflects its continued engagement in international initiatives aimed at promoting harmonized statistical standards and supporting statistical development across OIC Member States.

The purpose of the ICP is to provide a standard framework and language to classify “dying places”, a term that comprises both the places of death (where people die) and places of end-of-life care (where people are cared for at the end of their life). These include not only hospitals and private residences but also places like hospices, prisons, long-term care facilities, the street or even vehicles, among others. The ICP provides a comprehensive list of dying places that groups them according to a hierarchical system designed to be meaningful for individuals, responding to what is known about preferences for places of end-of-life care and death.
