Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC will organise a Statistical Training Course on “SDG 5 (Gender Equality) Indicators” for the benefit of experts from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of the OIC countries on 23-24 June 2026 through an online video conferencing platform. The training course will be organised in collaboration with the Department of Statistics of Malaysia (DOSM).

The training course will be conducted by competent experts from DOSM. The main objective of the course is to enhance the capacities of participants in the collection, compilation, analysis, reporting, and dissemination of SDG 5 indicators, while facilitating the sharing of Malaysia’s relevant country experience and good practices with the participating OIC countries.

The training will cover the following topics:

• Overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, with particular focus on SDG 5 (Gender Equality)
• Concepts, definitions, and methodological foundations related to SDG 5 indicators and gender statistics
• Data sources for SDG 5 indicators, including censuses, surveys, administrative records, and other relevant sources
• Practical approaches to compiling, analysing, and interpreting selected SDG 5 indicators
• Malaysia’s experience and good practices in the production, reporting, and dissemination of gender statistics and SDG 5 indicators
