Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme for the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC Member Countries

The accurate, timely, reliable and consistent statistical data is of an utmost importance for policy making and strategy development in any country. The OIC member countries have varying levels of capacities for producing statistical data in accordance with the relevant internationally-accepted statistical standards. Thus, the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme for the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC Member Countries aims at matching statistical needs and capacities of the NSOs of OIC member countries and then organising training activities in order to close the statistical capacity gaps and thus contributing to the improvement of National Statistical Systems (NSSs) of the member countries.

The StatCaB Programme was initiated in early 2007. It is the flagship capacity development programme of the SESRIC. Within its framework, the Centre collects information from the NSOs of OIC member countries through the biennial StatCaB questionnaire, assesses their needs and capacities, matches these needs and capacities, and organizes statistical capacity development activities between the beneficiary and provide countries. Besides, the Centre, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) regularly reports the implemented StatCaB activities to the Follow-Up Meetings and Annual Sessions of the OIC-StatCom.
