SESRIC to Organize a Training Workshop on ‘Quality Assurance for Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’

Date : 01-03 July 2025 Venue : SESRIC Headquarters, Ankara Türkiye

SESRIC, in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-STAT), the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), will organise a training workshop on “Quality Assurance for Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation” on 1-3 July 2025 at its headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye. The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) in implementing quality assurance frameworks across their national statistical systems to enhance the reliability and credibility of official statistics.

The workshop is being organized in line with Strategic Objective 5.1 of the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action for 2021-2025, which emphasises the improvement of quality assurance frameworks in national statistical systems across OIC member countries. Furthermore, the initiative is aligned with Resolution Items 1, 2, and 3 of the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), which call for the implementation, follow-up, and reporting of key actions under the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action and encourage NSOs to take necessary steps for producing monitoring and evaluation indicators for OIC programmes of action.

The workshop will provide an in-depth overview of the United Nations National Quality Assurance Framework (NQAF) and its implementation guidance. It will train participants on quality assurance in the use of administrative and other data sources, introduce newly developed quality assurance tools, and facilitate peer learning through the exchange of best practices and country experiences.

By bringing together NSO representatives from OIC member countries, the workshop will contribute to the harmonisation and enhancement of quality assurance mechanisms across national statistical systems, supporting evidence-based policymaking and the production of high-quality official statistics.
